How to Have Fun With Your Lover - Nine Sterling Tips

by Patty Mooney

Cupid hit a bull's eye when my husband and I first met on a theatre balcony on Valentine's Day in 1982. Ever since then, the continuing theme of our relationship has been love and romance. Many people wonder how we keep our love so "fresh;" how it can be that we love waking up to look into each other's eyes in the morning; how "after all these years" we still enjoy walking hand-in-hand. From the beginning we made this promise to each other: To always communicate our feelings, no matter what. We don't go to bed angry at each other. Sure, we have had our "lover's quarrels", even one or two earth-shaking ones, but we've always managed to get past them, laugh at ourselves, kiss and make up.

  1. Don't wait for Valentine's Day or a birthday to profess your love. Write your loving feelings in a poem or a short essay. Put it into an envelope and seal it with a heart sticker, or draw one. Put your lover's name on it, and then leave it in a place where your lover will find it.
  2. Take trips to fun and exciting places, just the two of you. You could get stranded on a South-Pacific desert island, or you could pretend to be a tourist in your own home town. Good things happen to those who travel with a happy heart.
  3. Take a bath together. Wash each other's hair, scrub each other's backs. Let skin touch skin. For an extra special bath, use bubble bath or aromatherapy oil, turn down the lights, light a candle, have a glass of Merlot.
  4. Have running weekly appointments to give each other a sensual full-body massage with your most special oils. He can do you on Friday, and you can do him on Saturday (or whenever you want).
  5. Go to the beach and watch the sunset together, and then walk barefoot along the water's edge.
  6. Go out for a romantic dinner at your favorite restaurant to celebrate the fact that you are together and love each other.
  7. Try new things together. Maybe once a month or every other month, do something you have always wanted to do but never made the time for, like a hot-air balloon ride, or boogey-boarding, or taking a trolley ride.
  8. Keep the promises you make, and don't make promises you don't intend to keep.
  9. Take every opportunity to cuddle, hug, touch and kiss.
